VirtualBox 3.1 atnaujinimas
4 gruodžio, 2009 – 9:36 Pačioje gruodžio mėnesio pradžioje Sun Microsystems pristatė dar vieną eilinį Virtualbox atnaujinimą. Tiesa, galbūt jis ne toks eilinis dėl savo versijos – 3.1. Tai nauja šaka, kurioje jau pristatyta keletas naujų funkcijų, kurios paspartins VirtualBox veikimą kai kuriose sistemose. Tačiau iš esmės globalių naujų funkcijų nėra.
Šioje versijoje taip pat ištaisyta ganėtinai daug klaidų, kas padarys VirtualBox dar stabilesnę.
Naujos funkcijos
- Teleportacija (gyva migracija) – galimybė perkelti gyvą VM seansą iš vieno kompiuterio į kitą.
- VM statusai dabar gali būti atstatomi iš „snapshot’ų“ vietoje paskutiniojo, o nauji „snapshots“ gali būti padaryti iš kitų taip pat („branched snapshots“).
- 2D vaizdo akseleracija Windows’ams.
- Lankstesni laikmenų nustatymai: CD/DVD įrenginiai gali būti prijungti prie savarankiško IDE kontrolerio ir taip pat galima tai padaryti su daugiau nei vienu įrenginiu.
- Prijungto tinklo tipas gali būti keičiamas net VM esant įjungtam.
- Visiškai perrašytas USB palaikymas (vis dar eksperimentinis) OpenSolaris sistemoms.
- Stiprus paspartėjimas PAE ir AMD64 sistemoms (tik naudojant VT-x ir AMD-V, normalų „paging’ą“).
- Eksperimentinis EFI (Extensible Firmware Interface) palaikymas.
- Paravirtualių tinklo adapterių palaikymas (virtio-net).

- Support for Parallels version 2 disk image (HDD) files; see the manual for more information
- OVF: create manifest files on export and verify the content of an optional manifest file on import

- Mouse device: now five buttons are passed to the guest (bug #3773)
- VBoxHeadless: fixed loss of saved state when VM fails to start
- VBoxSDL: fixed crash during shutdown (Windows hosts only)

- Linux Additions: added support for uninstalling the Linux Guest Additions (bug #4039)
- Linux guest shared folders: allow mounting a shared folder if a file of the same name as the folder exists in the current directory (bug #928)
- SDK: added object-oriented web service bindings for PHP5
